Chemical Influence
This photographic work focuses on the subject of agricultural pesticides and human health. Pesticides are invisible chemicals, as people aren’t always aware of where they have been used. Crops are sprayed at the farms, leaving pesticide residues on the fruits and vegetables that result from the crops. This process is usually controlled by scientific laboratories where scientists check produce for the amounts of pesticide residues. It seems shocking how unsustainable the agriculture currently is in terms of organic and natural production methods. The aim of this series of images is to highlight the clinical side that some of the food products have to go through. The idea of a clinical environment communicates in a completely different visual language within this kind of subject matter. Fruits are no longer perceived as edible, creating an artificiality and a different aesthetic. The photographs were designed to possess a commercial aesthetic, with intention to be viewed as even more visually appealing, in order to reinforce the message.
